You can count on Maxine to make your day. John Wagner, Creator of Hallmark's Maxine © Susanna McLeod Sep 19, 2003 With her drooping, grayish exterior and sour spirit to match, one particular cartoon character has made a big impression. She seems to peer through dark glasses directly at readers, scrutinizing and examining. Then the scrawny old woman utters a humdinger of a crabby comment from, of all places, the inside of a greeting card. That's Maxine, speaking out for the older generation and making a lot of smiles in the process. As an artist with Hallmark™ since 1970, John Wagner created Maxine in 1986 as a new character line for the Shoebox Greetings™ card division. He created a brazen older woman with a stooped back, a mop of curly gray hair and abrasive personality. Wagner's mom, grandmother and unmarried aunts provided inspiration for the comic creation. Maxine took on an individuality of her own, taking sheer delight in making high-spirited, crabby remarks about almost everything. Though she was truly funny, the character had the staff at Hallmark™ concerned. Spokeswoman for Hallmark™, Rachel Bolton noted in a 1997 article on the "my.com" website that, "When she first came out, we were so worried that older people might be offended. Evaluating The Different Stages of Child Development
There are many stages of child development that occur with each child in order to reach adulthood. A child will go through the beginning stages of child development immediately as they work hard to recognize their parents, learn to roll over, hold their head up, and eventually crawl, pull up, sit up, and walk.
It's important to understand the many stages of development of the child in order to recognize advancements, disabilities, conditions, and diseases as well as to measure personal and physical growth too.
There are many theories of the stages of development of the child. They include Sigmund Freud who believed that child development was based on sexuality. In conclusion this theory creates the though that if a child doesn't meet and complete each stage of sexuality, it could influence they behaviors and personalities they take on as adults.
The next theory of the stages of child development is by Erik Erikson who believed that each stage of child development is based on overcoming a conflict. It is determined by a child's success or failure to develop accordingly.
Social theories such as those developed by John Bowlby believe that the stages of child development is affected by the relationship that a child has with their caregivers, including parents, teachers, and others.
Albert Bandura was a psychologist who also believed that socialization played a role in stages of child development. This theory concludes that if a child watches others, they learn behaviors and imitates the skills, Parents and peers play a role in how the child acts because they will act out what they see.
Development of the child is important in life. Without these developmental skills a child will only lay down and cannot do anything else. They do not progress to become independent and cannot comprehend anything because they do not learn anything. Stages of development of the child begin immediately after birth and continue to double in acceptability until they reach adult hood. Even though there are many studies out there on how a child learns, nothing compares to the actual development and experience of a child.
When a child is brought up in a stable environment and shown love, attention, and discipline as well as encouragement and understanding, they can grow up to become well rounded adults. However during the stages of development of the child,if a child doesn't get all of this, then they may always feel as though they are missing something or lacking something important.
Creating a stable environment is ideal but it is not always possible. However if a child has consistency when they cannot have stability they will be able to complete the many stages of child development without complications. Each child is different and should be treated as such. What works for one child doesn't necessarily work for another.
Thus, if you are countering behavioral problems with one child and not with the siblings, maybe the child needs more attention or requires professional help to understand the main reasons for the erratic behavior patterns.
